X-ray technology employs low doses of radiation to create pictures that help physicians diagnose diseases or injuries. The actual X-ray is a form of energy that penetrates the body to produce internal images. The parts of the inner body that are denser-bones for example-absorb a greater amount of radiation and appear brighter on the images, while those parts that are less dense, such as muscle and fat, appear darker.

Scripps imaging departments work increasingly with digital X-ray images, for faster communication between physicians, and a more reliable health care record for patients.
